The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an inportant common all India level admission test conducted by 11 National Law Universities for admissions to their under-graduate (LLB) and also for post-graduate degree programmes (LL.M). All candidates Indian Nationals (for all Universities), NRI and NRI Sponsored (For NLIU, Bhopal; WBNUJS, Kolkata, and HNLU, Raipur only) seeking admission to the under-graduate (LLB) and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.M) must appear in the CLAT. The Ministry of Human Resource Development brokered a settlement between the various law schools of India to conduct a common, all India entrance examination as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The test is conducted by rotation in the order of their establishment.

These universities are Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMLNLU), National Law School of India University, Bangalore (NLSIU), NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (NALSAR), Chanakya National Law University, Patna (CNLU), National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi (NUALS), National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU), Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (HNLU), The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (WBNUJS), Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala (RGNUL), National Law University, Jodhpur(NLU), Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar (GNLU).
