India's PM arrives in Bangladesh for a two-day key visit
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Bangladesh on Teusday for a two-day state visit aimed at warming often prickly ties between the two South Asian neighbors.
Manmohan Singh and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are working to reach agreement over their disputed border, and explore cooperation in the power sector and enhance cross border trade.
However, a hoped-for agreement over the sharing of water flowing between the countries appears unlikely because of objections from the Indian state of West Bengal.
India helped Bangladesh secede from Pakistan in a 1971 war. Relations soured after a 1975 military coup in Bangladesh. Singh's visit, which began Tuesday, is aimed at enkindle the warm relations of four decades ago.
