Traffic comes to a standstill as heavy rains lashes Delhi
Traffic came to a complete standstill in New Delhi on Friday after heavy rains lashed the capital city at intervals for around seven hours.
Several streets were waterlogged, causing problems to residents, students and office-goers in particular.
While many people were forced to stay confined to their homes, others were seen on the streets stranded, along with their vehicles, at different locations across the city.
A common sight was the locals and school children wading through knee-deep water.
According to the Meteorological Department, there were 36.6 mm of showers between 4 a.m to 8.30 am. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.1 degree Celsius.
The monsoon this year has also caused heavy floods in several parts of north and central India, causing heavy devastation to life and property.
