Rupee falls below 52 against dollar, nears all-time low
The Sensex slid under the 16,000 mark on 21 Nov and the value of the Indian rupee on Monday fell below 52 against the US dollar for the first time in over two-and-a-half years on renewed worries over Europe and austerity measures in the United States.
The Sensex fell 425.41 points or 2.6% to close at 15946.10, falling below the 16,000 mark and the partially convertible rupee slumped 1.3 per cent to touch a low of 52.02 against the dollar, the lowest level since March 2009.
