Building Collapsed in Rio de Janeiro, 5 killed
In downtown Rio de Janeiro three buildings collapsed into a pile of rubble because of structural problems. The buildings 20, 10 and 5 floors high suddenly collapsed just one block away from the city’s historic Municipal Theater.
According to officials at least five people were killed and 16 people are missing. The buildings were mostly used for office space during the day and were almost empty at the time of the disaster. Investigators searched for clues for the deadly collapse in the historic heart of Rio. Rescue teams pulled six people alive from the rubble.
Rio de Janeiro is preparing to host soccer's 2014 World Cup finals and the 2016 Olympics.
