Soccer match riots in Egypt, 74 people died
At least 74 people killed in riots in the Egyptian city of Port Said in a soccer match between two longtime rivals the Port Said team and the Ahly of Cairo. The match turns deadly after the home team el masry beat popular el ahly team and hooligans supporting the winning team attack opposing players and fans.
It is one of the worst incidents of sports violence in Egypt and in soccer stadiums in 30 years. Some of the fans reportedly armed with knives and some victims had been stabbed to death. There were reports of rocks, bottles, flares and fireworks being thrown on the players and fans and injured some players.
