Burma's Aung San Suu Kyi to visit Britain and Norway in June
Aung San Suu Kyi, The Myanmar’s opposition leader and Nobel laureate, will travel outside her country for the first time in nearly a quarter of a century in June to make visits to Norway and the UK. Aung San Suu Kyi is to leave Burma for the first time in 24 years to visit Britain and Norway in June, her party has revealed.
In a fresh sign of the sweeping political change taking place in Myanmar, Ms Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party announced on Wednesday that she will visit Oslo, where she was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1991. Ms Suu Kyi’s decision to travel outside Myanmar follows a period of dramatic change inside the country, including a historic by-election on April 1 that won her a seat in a year-old parliament that replaced nearly five decades of oppressive military rule.
