Fire in 200 year old Peer Dastgeer Sahib shrine in Srinagar
A 200 year old historical Peer Dastgeer Sahib shrine went up in flames early morning on 25 June in capital Srinagar. The authorities said all the relics of the 11th century saint were safe at the shrine of Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani popularly known as Shrine of Dastgeer Sahab.
Several fire tenders have been rushed to the shrine which is located in congested locality of Khanyar in old part of Srinagar. The cause of fire was still unknown. Curfew has been imposed around Peer Dastgeer Sahib shrine as hundreds of locals gathered at the shrine weeping and wailing. The shrine cuts religious barriers in Kashmir as muslims call the saint Ghaus-e-Azam and the Hindus revere the saint as Kahnoow.
