Violant Protests in Pakistan over anti-Islam film
On 21September, at least 19 people were killed and hundreds wounded in violent protest in Pakistan over a US made anti-Islam web video. Thousands of protesters battles with police in various Pakistani cities - Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar and mobs threw stones on the police and set fire to cars and movie theaters. The police responded with tear gas and gunfire to push back the tens of thousands of protesters.
This film is believed to mock the prophet Mohammed. There were peaceful protest marches in a half-dozen countries from Asia to the Middle East in the protest of the video after it attracted attention on the Internet. But in pakistan, it caused violence. Earlier, in a violant protest, 49 people including the U.S. ambassador were killed in Libya. A french magazine also published a series of cartoons mocking the prophet Mohammed. The french government has shut embassies, consulates, cultural centres and schools in 20 Muslim countries.
